What we fix
Most calls we take fall into a handful of failures. Each one has a different cause, and a different fix.
- Broken springs. The most common failure and the most dangerous to attempt yourself. A torsion spring holds enormous tension. If your door suddenly feels impossibly heavy or you heard a bang from the garage, this is usually why.
- Door will not open or close. Could be the opener, the safety sensors, the travel limits, or a door that has come off balance. Worth diagnosing before replacing anything.
- Door off track. Often follows an impact, a worn roller or a bent track. Running a door in this state damages panels and hardware quickly.
- Frayed or snapped cables. Usually paired with spring wear. Cables should be replaced in pairs.
- Noisy, shaky or slow movement. Rollers, bearings, hinges or balance. Noise is an early warning, not a cosmetic issue.
- Damaged panels. Sometimes a single section can be replaced rather than the whole door.
Why we look at the whole door, not just the part that failed
A garage door is a balanced system. The opener only moves a door that the springs are already carrying. When an opener burns out early, the cause is often a door that has drifted out of balance and forced the motor to do work it was never meant to do.
So every repair visit starts with a check of the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, balance, safety sensors and opener settings together. It is the difference between replacing an opener and fixing the reason the opener failed.
Repair or replace?
An honest answer depends on the door, not on what is easiest to sell. Repair usually makes sense when the door is structurally sound and the failure is a wear part: springs, cables, rollers, a sensor, a logic board. Replacement starts to make sense when panels are rusted or split, when the door is thin and uninsulated on a garage you use daily, or when you are repairing the same system repeatedly.
We will tell you which side of that line your door is on, and we will tell you when a repair will hold.
Common questions
Can I replace a garage door spring myself?
We strongly advise against it. Torsion springs are under extreme tension and cause serious injuries every year. It is also a job where getting the balance wrong damages the opener.
How long does a garage door repair take?
Most spring, cable and roller repairs are finished in one visit, typically one to two hours.
How long should a garage door last?
A well-maintained door commonly runs 15 to 30 years. Springs are the shorter-lived part, generally rated in cycles rather than years, which is why a busy household wears them out faster.
Do you work on commercial doors?
Yes. We service residential doors, commercial doors, operators, gates and access control.
